Tutti i partecipanti sono in piedi in cerchio meno uno che corre intorno al cerchio mentre tutti gli altri cantano questo ritornello:

"Pugnu cutugnu amara a cu c'a dugnu, c'a dugnu a ma mugghieri ca è figghia di cavalieri".

Al termine del ritornello, il corridore all'esterno del cerchio dà un pugnetto simbolico di sfida ad un membro del cerchio, che comincia a correre nella direzione opposta dello sfidante per tornare al proprio posto. Chi dei due arriva per primo al posto lasciato vuoto dal giocatore toccato se ne impossessa e vi rimane mentre l’altro continua a correre per lanciare altre sfide e così via. Si può decidere di sottoporre a penitenza chi resta fuori dal cerchio per più di 3 volte consecutive.

At the end of the chorus, the runner outside of the circle gives a symbolic challenge handful to a circle    member, which starts running in the opposite direction of the challenger to return to his seat.Whoever is the first to arrive at the place left vacant by the touched player, takes it and stays therewhile the other continues to run and to launch other challenges, and so on. You may decide that who remains outside the circle for more than 3 times must do a penance

Un bambino si siede di fronte ad un altro bambino, anch'egli seduto, appoggia le sue braccia incrociate e la faccia sulle ginocchia del compagno in modo tale da offrire la schiena e da non potere vedere quello che accade attorno a lui. Il compagnetto, a questo punto, appoggia sulla sua schiena la mano, tenendo però sollevate tante dita quant'è il numero che deve essere indovinato e intona la seguente tiritera: NIGNIRIGNOLA…. NIGNIRIGNOLA Quantu costa na carriola?
